Duke of Edinburgh's Award Programme
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DofE) is the world’s leading recognition for youth achievement, with the motto: “There’s more in you than you think.”
Young people from over 130 countries participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and its reputation is unparalleled among employers, policymakers, and leaders in society. The award aims to support the personal development of young people, encouraging them to design their own program of activities, set personal goals, and challenge themselves to achieve them. The program is voluntary, non-competitive, highly enjoyable, motivating, and requires sustained effort over an extended period.
Students at our secondary school can participate in the DofE Award program starting in Year 10. As part of this program, there are four sections: Voluntary Service, Physical Skills (Fitness), Other Skills, and an Expedition. Participants set their own goals for each of the four sections. Each student is required to dedicate one hour per week to each activity for a period of 6 or 12 months. A personal assessor monitors their progress, which is logged online on a weekly basis. In addition, students will plan and train for a three-day (two-night) expedition, which they will complete independently. The responsibility for planning, navigation, setting up camp, and preparing meals lies entirely with the young participants. This activity not only tests their resilience and teamwork but also provides memories they will carry with them for a lifetime.
This program presents an exciting, new challenge for our students, and we wish them the best of luck in achieving their awards.
