Bilingualism & Languages

Bilingualism promotes cognitive development – Language awareness, creativity and flexibility.

In the secondary school we continue the bilingual concept introduced at the kindergarten and primary school level. In general, the level of English from Year 5 is thus significantly higher at our school; lateral entry may be possible for students with German or English as their native language in conjunction with our German as a Foreign Language/ESL programme.

From Year 5 about half of the teaching is conducted in English. Each individual class is only held in one language – English or German. Our secondary school students can follow mathematics and science subjects in English with no difficulty. They hold their discussions, write their reports and give their presentations in English.

The second compulsory foreign language is Spanish or French and starts in Year 6 at our school. In Year 5 all children are given an introduction to Spanish.

In Year 8 Latin can then be chosen as a third language.
